What does your user name mean?

I've always wondered what some of the user names mean here. Mine, just something I thought up 20 years ago for some username I needed. I did have a slinky when I was a kid though.

Beach club prices
07-Feb-12   By: aineetiny

I wanted to avoid posting, but searched forums and could not find a thread posting the lounge chair rent fee on each beach club. The 1st time we went to playa, we got free passes to mamitas that was back in 2006 I think. next year we went to Kool (still my favorite), Think we paid 45 pesos for each lounger at kool in 2008, next year 2009 and 2011 then we used the Tukan beach club wich is included in the room rate. This year we get mamitas half off vouchers, but I don´t really like mamitas that much, preffer Kool or canibal royal. Can somebody list the fees for 2012? for Kool, wicky´s, canibal royal, zenzi etc. We would like to Lounge in a diferent beach club each day we are there. Thanks so much!!! Love the Playa.info GANG!

Big Black Sand Bags

Do the resorts from the Playa Del Carmen ferry pier towards the Sandos still have the big ugly sandbags in the water? Thanks:)

From southern Belize to Playa
07-Feb-12   By: Anciana

Hi, I am retired, European of mixed background (Swedish of Polish-German ethnicity), live in USA since many years. Am currently in southern Belize on a consulting assignment and plan to move to Playa, in about a month- 6 weeks. My problem: I have two cats and no car here. Cats tolerate air flights (they have been with me in several places around the Caribbean) and car trips. Never tried to take them for a bus ride, and - after learning that in an ADO bus I would have to pack them into a baggage compartment, where it would be awfully hot, little air and where they could get scared to death - I would not. There are no flights from Belize to Mexico, so my options are limited: 1) take a three stop puddle jumper flight from Punta Gorda to Corozal (changing planes in Belize City and San Pedro), then a taxi over the border to Chetumal, a flight to Cancun and there rent a car to get to Playa with cats 2) rent a car in PG (awfully expensive - BZ$175 a day - for a wreck, that might break anytime anywhere, as this is the only option there) to Corozal, (because I can't take a car from Belize to Mexico), take a friend for a ride and let him return the car to PG, then cross the border in a taxi and then as option 1, or 3) go to Chetumal or even Playa alone anyway, leaving the cats with a friend for a week or so, then rent a car in Chetumal or Playa - from a company that would let me take it to Belize and drive back to Belize, pick my cats and stuff and go to Playa. If I rent it in Chetumal it looks like I would need to return it there, but I would do it after installig the cats in Playa, and return to playa by bus. Am I overlooking something? Could you kindly advise me? Thanks.

Visiting Xel-Ha during rain this weekend
07-Feb-12   By: mike7688

Hello, I'll be flying into Cancun and taking a bus directly to Playa DC Saturday. I am very interested in visiting a nature park. I found the site for Xel-ha and it doesn't seem to expensive for an all inclusive trip to the reserve. I only have 2 full days in Playa. I've read that This weekend it's suppose to be raining with thunderstorms on the day I arrive and showers for the day I want to head down towards Tulum and Xel-ha. Does the rain usually last all day or just isolated times of the day. I'd like to know if it would be worth it to visit this place for the day, try some snorkeling, exploring and having food and mixed drinks free at the restaurants. I am coming alone, no kids. Is Xel-ha more of a kids place or can a solo traveler such as myself visit for the day. I'm very interested in the free food and drinks included in the ticket price since i've been told such things can be a little pricey in PDC. Would the rain ruin things? With only two days to visit PDC. I'm also very interested in culture and snorkeling, seeing the wildlife. I only wish i was certified for diving. What do people think about visiting this place before leaving for Merida on Tuesday morning? Thanks for any advice.

Where to find Live Music?
07-Feb-12   By: Gargi

I started a similiar thread in the Tulum forum. The general consensus (though few replies) was that things start to quiet down in early May. I'm thinking that after our few days in Tulum when we move up to Playa there should be a little more nightlife going on. Our group loves to check out live bands. Where are some of the best places to find music? I've noticed Bad Boys is pretty pro-active in posting their events. It's tough to find any sort of comprehensive week by week event schedule. On our last two visits we found a few interesting shows just by wandering the avenue, but it would be nice to know what's going on in advance. Not so much into the dj scene. We'd prefer people actually playing instruments. Any suggestions?

Working in Playa
07-Feb-12   By: jacqueline26

Hi! Long time no post! Last summer, my friend and I visited Playa, and recently started having homesick feelings of having not been there in what feels like forever. We are desperate to go back after reading through a lot of the recent trip reports :( We were thinking that possibly next summer, the summer of 2013, we would try spending the entire summer in Playa. However, the cost of all the eating and drinking in Playa certainly adds up. Would it be possible for us to get any type of summer job in Playa-if we werent to be fluent in Spanish by then (we're on our way!) ? I have a degree in English Education and she's working on a degree in Photography if that helps, but honestly we'd be interested in any type of job that we could get some type of pay. Would love to know if this is even a possibility- we're super excited at the thought of us spending the whole summer-so we hope that we could figure something out :D

Tequila
07-Feb-12   By: Rheta

Hi all. Been a long time since I've been on here. We've got just a little more than a month to go before we head down. So excited! When we are at home we have our favorites cocktails and drinks. But the last few years, while in Playa, we have stuck to Tequila for our "cocktail hour" on the balcony before we head out to dinner in the evening. We found a couple of tequila's we enjoyed alot(sipping quality not shots). The bottles are gorgeous but I can't help but think we must pay for that gorgeous bottle. I would love to bring them home but can't since we carry on. Is there a good quality tequila in a more plain bottle? I hope this doesn't sound like a silly question.:doh2:

No chocolate box this year. Flowers? Probably, delivered to her office. Is Victoria's Secret too much of a cliche? What are you guys planning on doing?

Posted restaurant menus
07-Feb-12   By: Doug from Iowa

I tried using the search option, but could not find any postings of current restaurant menus. Is there a posting out there? I visited this forum about 3 years ago and thought there was one. Or maybe I saw it on Locogringo forum. :doh2:

Booked Playa Maya!
07-Feb-12   By: terzaghi

Booked Playa Maya for 7 nights from May 14-21. We've stayed at AI's in the past (El dorado Royale and El dorado Seaside suites), but this is our first time staying in PDC. We've been to playa for shopping but didn't spend much time overall... We are excited to come down! Now to find out which restaurants are not to be missed... Thanks for all of the input to help us get to this point.

PDC to Puerto Aventuras
06-Feb-12   By: Ncomfort

What are our options for getting from PDC to Puerto Aventuras? We are drawn to boats/marinas and think we would enjoy a walk around the marina. Is it possible to walk the waterfront or is it gated? Thanks.
